A Journey in Dots - Song of the Deep
This portrayal of a humpback whale uses stippling and subtle brushwork to capture the grandeur and grace of the ocean giant. The contrasting black and white tones create depth, while the smooth curves of the whale’s body evoke a sense of movement and flow. The minimalistic background ensures that the whale remains the focal point, with the stippling technique bringing attention to the texture of the whale’s skin. The painting embodies both the strength and serenity of the humpback, highlighting its graceful yet powerful presence in the vastness of the ocean.

-Story behind the collection
As the days passed, the artist felt the life growing within her—a tender, round presence that mirrored the ocean’s most majestic creatures. Each kick and flutter resonated with the gentle movements of whales and sharks gliding through the deep blue, their powerful bodies carrying a graceful weight that she now understood so intimately.
Driven by this connection, she took up her brushes and began a series of paintings that celebrated these oceanic giants. But instead of the usual sharp lines and detailed realism, she embraced the softness of her own changing form. The sharks and whales in her paintings were rounder, fuller, each one a playful echo of her own swelling belly.
In a contemporary stippling style, she layered dots upon dots, using larger brushes to capture the bulk of her emotions, the depth of her experience. As she worked, the creatures emerged from the canvas, not as ferocious hunters or distant leviathans, but as tender, nurturing beings—mirrors of her own journey. The final touches were made with the smallest brush, adding delicate details that whispered of the intimate bond between mother and child, between artist and creation.
